JAKARTA - The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI) and the Mie Prefectural Government (Province) conducted a cooperation assessment in the placement of Indonesian migrant workers in Japan.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Abdul Kadir Karding, when receiving a visit from the Governor of Mie Prefecture, Japan, Ichimi Katsuyuki, during a meeting that took place at the KemenP2MI Building, Jakarta, Tuesday (6/5/2025).

According to Minister Karding, the realization of this cooperation opportunity needs to be carried out first with protocols that regulate the mechanism for protecting migrant workers, including gradual comprehensive monitoring and data collection in Mie Prefecture.

"Hopefully this cooperation can be followed up immediately," said Minister Karding in Jakarta.

Minister Karding said the Indonesian government is currently prioritizing sending competent workers abroad. Thus, in order to facilitate cooperation in placement, it is hoped that the Mie Prefecture Government will be involved in increasing the competence of prospective Indonesian migrant workers (CPMI).

"This means that from Mie Prefecture or the Japanese Government, it can invest in the construction of vocational schools in Indonesia, which have international certification and are registered with Japan," he said.

He also hopes that Japan and Indonesia, especially Mie Prefecture, can build healthy and productive collaboration, so that it will benefit both parties.

"We understand that Japan needs skilled workers and we have skilled migrant workers that we can supply to meet demand from the Japanese Government or Mie Prefecture," said Minister Karding.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Mie Prefecture, Katsuyuki Ichimi hopes that the cooperation assessment to be carried out can be agreed upon immediately and followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Mie Prefecture itself is located in the Kansai area, Honshu Island. This Prefecture has a capital city in Tsu and is known as one of the industrial and tourism centers.

It is known, from January 1 to April 30, 2025, KemenP2MI has placed 5,720 Indonesian migrant workers in Japan. Thousands of these workers are placed in the health sector, manufacturing, hospitality, agriculture and others.
