Pekanbaru Police Arrest Residents Who Shoot Teenagers To Death Due To Upset Makes Noise

PeKANBARU - Binawidya Sector Police, Pekanbaru City, Riau arrested a man with the initials HW (47), who is suspected of being the perpetrator of the shooter of a teenager named Muhammad Ihsan (15) who was playing to death with an air rifle.

The head of the Binawidya Police, Kompol Ihut Manjalo Tua, explained that the shooting began when the victim and other children had a match on Jalan Taman Karya, Tuah Madani District on April 30, 2025.

"At that location, they fought one game by forming a circle, and were surrounded by friends who supported them. Their action made a fuss for the people who were at that location," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 6.

At the time of the fight, suddenly a gunshot was heard and the victim immediately fell face down. Seeing the incident, other colleagues immediately fled.

While trying to escape, the children saw HW pointing the air rifle at them while shouting "you guys died". From a distance, the witnesses saw HW approaching the victim and trying to make him aware.

But not long after, HW took the victim to the Riau University Hospital in an unconscious state.

"The motive for shooting was to disperse the children who were fighting in front of his house," explained Kompol Ihut.

However, the victim's condition worsened until he was referred to Awal Bros Sudirman Hospital. However, Muhammad Ihsan finally died a few days after treatment.

Police officers also secured an air rifle along with two bullet projectiles. The victim was hit by a shot in the back of the head which left him unconscious.

"The autopsy showed the victim was hit once in the back of the head," he explained.

For his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 80 paragraph 3 of Law Number 17 of 2016 concerning Child Protection, and/or Article 351 paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code concerning persecution that causes death, and/or Article 359 of the Criminal Code regarding negligence that results in death.

"The police are currently still conducting further investigations of the perpetrators and witnesses," he said.
