JPO Iron Trellis In Cakung Is Not Worth A Function Because It Is Stolen By Thieves

JAKARTA - The iron safety and roof of the People's Crossing Bridge (JPO) in front of United Tractors and Tipar Cakung, Jalan Raya Bekasi, Cakung District, East Jakarta was allegedly stolen by thieves.

This condition is very dangerous for pedestrians and JPO users. The facility, which should be a safe means for pedestrians to cross this road, is now almost malfunctioning due to the many damaged and missing parts.

From observations in the field, most of the iron barriers on the right and left sides of the center of the JPO have disappeared. This condition is very dangerous for the crossmen because there are no more barriers.

Menurut Mahdi, pedagang sekitar lokasi JPO Cakung yang rusak, tempat pen crossing orang ini masih dipergunakan oleh warga dan juga karyawan pabrik.

They have no choice because if they go through the zebra cross, they are afraid to be hit by a large vehicle.

"If I see that this JPO is still being used by residents. Many employees come home or come to work via the bridge even though the conditions are quite scary because there is no iron barrier. Now this JPO has been installed with a line that was prohibited from crossing yesterday, I see that it doesn't exist yet," he told reporters, Friday, April 25.

The alarming condition of the JPO certainly endangers users, especially the elderly and children when crossing. The loss of JPO barrier iron is allegedly carried out by irresponsible people for personal gain.

"I know that the iron man who divides the JPO is surrounded by people, but maybe that's because the iron barrier has iron pieces that are not evenly shaped," he said.

In addition to the missing barrier, the paint on the JPO structure also appears peeling, and some steps are starting to stutter. There were no maintenance or repair efforts from related parties.

The theft of iron barrier is thought to have occurred due to a lack of supervision. The perpetrators took advantage of the situation to take parts of metal from the JPO which was then sold as scrap metal.

Responding to the condition of Cakung's JPO, the Head of DKI Jakarta Highways, Heru Suwondo, said that his party would close access to JPOs that were no longer suitable for function.

"The DKI Jakarta Provincial Highways Office will hold a meeting with relevant agencies and asset owners (PT Jakarta Tollroad Development, PT United Tractor, PT Transport Jakarta, BPAD DKI Jakarta Province and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Service) on Monday, April 28, 2025, to determine strategic steps for completion," Heru told reporters.
