JAKARTA - Withdrawal of the Ukrainian military from Russian constituents, Donbass and Novorossiya, is needed to create peace in Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told France's Le Point in the interview.
"If Ukraine withdraws its troops from these four regions, then yes," he said when asked by the magazine's correspondent whether the conflict would end if this requirement was met, reported by TASS April 24.
Kremlin spokesman reminded that these areas are listed in the Russian Constitution as part of its integral.
He also noted that currently some areas in this area are still occupied by the Kyiv regime.
"According to the results of the referendum, these areas have entered the Russian administrative limit. From our point of view, this is a de jure and de facto situation," Peskov said.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin in a speech on June 14, 2024, said setting initial requirements for negotiations to end the war, Ukraine must stop its NATO ambitions and withdraw its troops from the four Ukrainian territories claimed and largely controlled by Russia.
