BEKASI A man with the initials JS (38) was arrested by the police after being caught on CCTV cameras stealing a motorbike belonging to the head of the RT in the Telaga Asih area, West Cikarang, Bekasi Regency. To launch the action, the perpetrator disguised himself as a mobile fruit trader who carried his merchandise.

West Cikarang Police Chief, AKP Tri Baskoro Bintang Wijaya, said the arrest of the perpetrator was carried out on Monday, April 21, 2025, at around 17.00 WIB in Cibitung Village, Telaga Asih Village, West Cikarang.

"The perpetrator JS was arrested after investigators conducted an investigation based on CCTV footage and information from residents. He disguised himself as a fruit man, even though he was eyeing a motorbike," Tri said when confirmed by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 22.

The theft occurred on Friday, April 18 at around 10:33 WIB. The victim, who is the head of RT 007/001, was monitoring the work on repairing drainage channels in the neighborhood where he lived. At that time, he parked his motorbike on the side of the road without locking the handlebar and was still in a state of suspended key.

However, at around 11.00 WIB, the victim found his motorbike was no longer on the spot. He then checked the surveillance cameras belonging to local residents, and found the perpetrator taking his motorbike away.

"The perpetrator walked casually with the fruit merchandise on his shoulders, then immediately got on the victim's motorbike and took him away," explained Tri.

CCTV footage was then shared with residents' WhatsApp groups and widely spread on social media, one of which was the Instagram account @bekasi24jamcom. The video showing the perpetrator's actions went viral.

Armed with information from the recording, the West Cikarang Police Criminal Investigation Team immediately processed the crime scene (TKP) and asked the victim to make a police report. After an investigation was carried out, the police managed to track down the whereabouts of the perpetrators and arrest them without a fight.

"The perpetrator sold the stolen motorbike to the Kuningan area, West Java, for Rp. 1 million," said Tri.

JS is known to be a recidivist of theft cases since 2007. During the examination, he admitted that he had stolen motorbikes five times, including the Cibitung Main Market, Aster Park, Cibitung red light, Cikampek, and Kramat Jati.

"He admitted a total of five crime scenes. This is an experienced actor, and his modus operandi always changes to trick residents," Tri added.

The police are now detaining the perpetrators at the West Cikarang Police Headquarters for further investigation. He was charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code regarding theft with weight.

AKP Tri Baskoro also appealed to residents to always be vigilant and not to leave the vehicle in an open condition, even though it was only for a short time. He also appreciated the active role of the community in assisting the process of disclosing cases through reports and rapid dissemination of information.

"Never underestimate vehicle security. Criminals can disguise themselves in unexpected ways," he concluded.
