JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump said on Sunday he hoped Russia and Ukraine could reach an agreement to end the war, which is already in its third year, this week.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his troops to hold a special military operation on February 24, 2022, in Ukrainian territory. It turned into a prolonged war, the biggest war on the mainland of Europe since the end of World War II.
President Trump since the 2024 United States presidential election campaign is determined to end the Russia-Ukraine war as soon as possible.
"Both of them will then start doing big business with the United States, which is developing, and achieve profits," President Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
After being sworn in, President Trump moved quickly by holding telephone talks with President Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Efforts to realize peace resumed with several separate meetings between delegates and envoys between the three countries.
Last week, Pam Sam's country threatened to abandon efforts to broker Russia-Ukraine peace deals, unless there were clear signs of progress in the near future.
"We want to finish it quickly," US President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House.
"Now if for a reason one of the two sides complicates it, we'll say, 'you guys are stupid, you're bad guys, and we're going to be soft. But hopefully we don't need to do that," Trump stressed.

Trump's statement follows comments by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio who said the two sides only had a few days to show progress or Washington would give up.
"We will not continue this business for weeks and months. So, we need to determine immediately now, and I am talking about a matter of days, whether this can be done in the next few weeks," Foreign Minister Rubio said in Paris after meeting with European and Ukrainian leaders.
"If it is not possible, if we are so far away that this will not happen, then I think the president may already be at a point where he will say, 'it's fine, we're done'," continued the US Foreign Minister.
