JAKARTA Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf explained the mechanism for proposing the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia, Suharto, as a national hero. According to him, the process started from a community initiative.

"The input comes from the community, usually through similar seminars and forums. After that, there is involvement of historians, local figures, and other relevant resource persons with the proposed figures," said Saifullah after attending a halal bihalal event at the office of the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment (Menko PM), Jakarta, Sunday, April 20 evening.

He explained, if the proposal is accepted at the district/city level, it will be forwarded to the governor. A similar process will be carried out at the provincial level before reaching the Ministry of Social Affairs.
