At The International Forum, Puan Affirms Indonesia's Commitment To Palestine's Struggle

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, met with the Speaker of the Palestinian Parliament, Rawhi Fattouh on the sidelines of a parliamentary group forum for countries that defend Palestine or The Group of Parliaments in support of Palestine in Istanbul, Turkey.

To Rawhi Fattouh, Puan emphasized that Indonesia's support for Palestine never stopped until Palestine was independent. Indonesia's support for Palestine is not only carried out by the government and the DPR, the Indonesian people also continue to provide support for Palestinian independence.

"Support for Palestine is a moral and historical call for the Indonesian nation. Indonesia continues to support the struggle of the Palestinian people and has not changed since the era of independence," said Puan, Sunday, April 20.

Puan claims that the Indonesian House of Representatives has always emphasized Indonesia's position of rejecting violent acts amid the increasingly brutal escalation of violence in Gaza and other Palestinian territories.

"Both on bilateral tables and international forums, the DPR continues to voice support for Palestine and invites world countries to strive for the creation of peace in Palestine," said Puan.

Puan admitted that she wanted to strengthen cooperation between the DPR and the Palestinian parliament. According to her, strengthening this cooperation can increase supportraising for other countries in supporting the struggle of the Palestinian people so that they can live comfortably and peacefully in their own homes.

For this reason, Puan invited the Speaker of the Palestinian Parliament to attend the Parliamentary Association of OIC Member States or Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) meeting in Jakarta on May 12-15, 2025, where the Indonesian House of Representatives will act as host.

"Of course this will be a valuable moment to improve coordination and consolidate support for Palestine," he explained.

Puan also encouraged concrete diplomacy for a permanent ceasefire and access to humanitarian aid that was not hindered. He also advocated cooperation, promoted dialogue, and rejected unilateralism in the context of supporting the end of war.

"We must take the lead in promoting peaceful resolutions and rejecting violence as a means to resolve disputes. Israeli attacks on civilians including women, children and parents in Gaza and the West Bank must be stopped," he added.
