DPR Targets Revision Of Election Law To Be Completed In July 2026

JAKARTA - The Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR targets the revision of the Election Law (UU) to be completed in July 2026, because the stages of holding the 2029 General Election have started 20 months before the election takes place as mandated by the Constitutional Court (MK).

"So if all of them are withdrawn, it means that in July 2026 this law must be completed. From now on, there is only one year or two left," said Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Baleg Ahmad Doli Kurnia.

Therefore, said Doli, the revision of the Election Law must be a priority for the DPR to be discussed immediately, especially accommodating the Constitutional Court's decision regarding changes in election norms such as the parliamentary threshold and the presidential threshold. Including, discussing the revision of the Pilkada Law which must be unified in the Election Law.

"I said that this law should be if we want to find the most perfect, we have enough time. Now one year and a half is enough. This has only been one year or two months. The longer it will take, the more tight it will be. So I always talk, let's talk, let's do it when we can discuss it, "explained the Golkar Party politician.

Furthermore, Doli reminded that discussing the revision of the Election Law requires a joint commitment. Moreover, President Prabowo Subianto has stated a commitment to improving the political system. Therefore, currently, a joint commitment is needed between all leaders of political parties to encourage the revision of the Election Law.

"The government must continue to encourage this. Second, the commitment of political parties, leaders of political parties. Those who order later their respective factions to start discussing this matter," concluded Doli regarding the revision of the Election Law.
