Minister Of Environment Search For Information On Most Products Of River Pollution In Bali

GIANYAR - Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, visited the Sungai Watch headquarters in Ketewel Village, Gianyar Regency, Bali, Monday, to see firsthand how non-governmental organizations (NGOs) work in dealing with waste in the river and looking for information on what products and brands are most polluting.

"We visited the Sungai Watch NGO office in Ketewel Village, to find out the type of garbage that pollutes the river a lot, this is to formulate an EPR policy," said Environment Minister Hanif Faisol, Monday, March 24.

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a policy of the Ministry of Environment to hold producers accountable for polluting the environment, including polluting rivers.

EPR is an environmental policy that requires producers to be responsible for their products, including waste management. In Indonesian, EPR means an expanded producer responsibility.

The visit of the Minister of Environment was to see the activities carried out by the NGOs as well as to receive input related to the type or brand of garbage that pollutes many rivers in Bali and Java.

"The purpose of the EPR is to reduce the amount of product waste, increase recycling and recover energy from product waste and ensure product waste is managed in an environmentally friendly way," he continued as quoted by ANTARA.

With the EPR policy, companies must contribute to improving the environment and rivers in Bali, in relation to recovery from the impact caused by plastic products or others that pollute the environment.

Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol also praised the Gianyar Regent's commitment with the DPRD in efforts to process waste from upstream starting with efforts to sort downstream, as well as improvements to the final disposal site (TPA) as well as the formation of TPS3R in villages.
