Governor of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Melki Laka Lena coordinated with various parties to repatriate the bodies of his citizens who were victims of violence by members of an armed criminal group (KKB) in Anggruk District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains.

This was conveyed by Melki after opening a public discussion activity with the theme "Cooperating and Monitoring the Economic Vision of Regional Heads in NTT" organized by the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) of NTT Province.

"Communication for the repatriation of the victims is being carried out, the bodies are being worked on again in the near future to be repatriated to NTT," Melki told reporters in Kupang, Monday, March 24, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to Melki, intensive communication has been carried out, both openly and behind closed doors, with community leaders, security forces, and related parties to ensure the safety of NTT residents in Papua.

In particular, Melki condemned the acts of violence committed by the KKB against teachers and health workers from NTT who had served in Yahukimo.

Melki expressed concern about the incident because he was quite familiar with the situation in Papua, including the large number of NTT residents who worked and made a living in the area.

"Moreover, the victims are NTT residents," he said.

The governor added that he had also coordinated with the East Flores Regent to immediately repatriate Rosalina Sogen's body, who was the victim of the KKB attack.

The repatriation assistance is also being coordinated with NTT residents in Papua so that it can be carried out as soon as possible.

The governor emphasized that NTT residents who work in Papua have contributed positively and have never been involved in conflict.

Meanwhile, Commander of Korem 161/Wira Sakti Kupang Brigadier General Joao Xavier Barreto Nunes straightened out the information that only one person died from the KKB attack.

"So, I want to clarify that one person died, the rest were injured," he said.

He said Korem 161/WS had also coordinated with Kodam XVII Cenderawasih regarding the repatriation of the victims.

In addition to the death toll, six other people were injured and while undergoing treatment at the hospital will also be immediately returned to NTT.
