JAKARTA - Inspector General (Irjen) of the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Heri Germany reported irregularities in the construction of 2,100 houses for residents of the former East Timor (now Timor Leste) to the NTT High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati), Thursday, March 20.

"The results of the examination by the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing indicate that there are allegations of irregularities in the housing development project specifically for former East Timor Fighters," he told reporters in Kupang, Thursday.

The hundreds of billions worth of projects were carried out by PT. Nindya Karya, PT. Adhi Karya, and PT. Brantas Abipraya located in Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.

He said that during the examination he found indications of fraud and various irregularities that had been confirmed by a team of experts from the University of Nusa Cendana Kupang.

"We have officially submitted the report on the results of this investigation to the NTT High Prosecutor's Office for follow-up in the legal process," he said.

He added that several technical findings of major concern include the foundation of a building that is not sturdy, the use of non-optimal sondir tools, and coercion of development on unstable land without adequate strengthening.

"I also found that from the foundation it did not meet the requirements. Indeed, the house was categorized as Risha. However, in its implementation it turned out not to be in accordance with what was required, then it was a cheating act," said Heri Germany.

Heri explained that the project had been researched by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) together with the engineering faculty of Undana.

Structurally, not only building materials are of concern, but also the entire construction design.

An analysis from the University of Nusa Cendana team, he said, has also shown a weakness in the construction which has the potential to pose long-term risks for residents.

"The legal process must be carried out carefully based on sufficient evidence. Further evaluation will determine whether this case meets the requirements to be followed up legally," he said.

Heri added that he fully handed over the process of handling the case to the NTT Prosecutor's Office.
