JAKARTA - The ranks of the Indonesian Navy managed to thwart the smuggling of illegal goods in the form of used clothes (ballpress) from Malaysia to Indonesia, which were sent via the Port of Kumai, West Kalimantan.

Head of the Navy Information Service First Admiral I Made Wira Hady said the smuggling was thwarted by the Fleet One Quick Response (F1QR) team of the Kumai Navy Base (Lanal), West Kalimantan.

The failure of the smuggling began when the Indonesian Navy received information about suspicious activities at the Port of the Commander of the United States, West Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan on Thursday, March 6.

"Based on the information received, the ballpress allegedly entered through the Indonesia-Malaysia land border in West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan), then sent to Pontianak to be stored in several transit warehouses," Wira said when confirmed in Jakarta, Antara, Friday, March 7.

Based on this information, Indonesian Navy personnel also carried out monitoring. After monitoring, personnel finally detected the activity of a truck containing a ballpress entering Kumai Port, Pontianak.

The illegal items are planned to be sent via Kumai Port to Java Island. The officers immediately searched the trucks and warehouses used by the perpetrators. Sure enough, the officers immediately found a large number of illegal used clothes that had been packaged.

"After being examined, it was found that a cargo of 167 sacks of ballpress worth Rp. 1.3 billion was allegedly from Malaysia where the commodity price per sack was Rp. 8 million," said Wira.

Officers also arrested one of the truck drivers for further investigation. The Indonesian Navy personnel then handed over hundreds of sacks of illegal used clothing and truck drivers to the Base Bun Customs (BC) for further investigation.
