The Body Of The Peak Climber Cartensz Flown To Jakarta

TIMIKA - Two bodies of climbers Puncak Cartensz Pyramid were flown to Jakarta using Lion Air, Monday at 10.45 WIT, said Mimika Police Chief AKBP Billyandha Hilde Budiman in Timika, Central Papua.

The two victims named Elsa Laksono and Lilie Wijayanti Poegiono died due to hypothermia in climbing.

"The two bodies were successfully evacuated to Mimika Hospital by helicopter," said AKBP Billyandha as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, March 3.

Elsa Laksono's body was evacuated on Sunday (2/3), then immediately taken to Mimika Hospital. Meanwhile, Lilie Wijayanti Poegiono's body was evacuated on Monday (3/3) at 06.53 WIT.

"The evacuation of the two bodies went smoothly despite bad weather constraints," he said.

Elsa Laksono died while traveling down from Puncak Carstenz Pyramid due to indications of being exposed to acute mountain sickness (AMS) symptoms. The victim was evacuated to Mimika Hospital at around 06.10 to 09.26 WIT.

Lilie Wijayanti Poegiono was declared dead of AMS symptoms when she descended from Puncak Gunung Carstenz Pyramid on Saturday (1/3) at around 02.07 WIT after being evacuated by a companion and guide at Teras Dua.
