JAKARTA - The Chief of Naval Staff (KSAL) Admiral Yudo Margono said that the KRI Nanggala-402 submarine that was lost in the waters of northern Bali had oxygen reserves for the next 72 hours.
"Regarding the KRI's oxygen capability, if the blackout condition is like today, it can take 72 hours. So, it will take approximately three days", said Yudo in a press conference broadcast on YouTube The Indonesian Navy's Information Service, Thursday, April 22.
"So yesterday, when contact was lost at 03.00, it will be 72 hours until Saturday at 03.00", he added.
He hopes, this German-made submarine can be found soon before oxygen reserves. Thus, various search efforts were continued.
"And yesterday with the permission of the TNI Commander, we were distressed on the countries that are members of the submarine conference which have been established with countries that have submarines. So, these countries are ready to help", he said.
KSAL said that currently Singapore and Malaysia had assisted in the search for KRI Nanggala-402. "Several other countries are also ready to help", said Yudo.
"So this has been agreed at the conference. Anyone who experiences an emergency is obliged to provide safety assistance. All for humanitarian aid, there is no politics", he explained.
Previously reported, KRI Nanggala allegedly experienced blackout while diving static. Thus, this condition makes the ship uncontrollable and unable to carry out emergency procedures. The ship is also alleged to have been at a depth of 600-700 meters.
This depth is known to exceed the capability of a ship with a maximum diving specification of 500 meters. KRI Nanggala-402 is one of five Indonesian Navy submarines currently undergoing training trials in Bali waters.
