Lecturer Killer In Jayapura Successfully Arrested, Shot Right Foot

JAKARTA - Personnel from the Jayawijaya Police, Papua, paralyzed MW (23), a convict in the murder of a lecturer, who escaped from Wamena Prison in January 2021 along with 19 other inmates.

Jayawijaya Police Chief AKBP Dominggus Rumaropen said MW was involved in the murder of a lecturer in Jayapura some time ago, then sent to serve his sentence at Wamena prison but managed to escape.

"When he was about to be arrested, MW fought back to be able to escape from the attack by the members so that he had to be paralyzed by a shot in the right leg and is currently receiving treatment at the clinic", said Dominggus in Wamena, the capital of Jayawijaya Regency, as reported by Antara, Thursday, April 22.

Regarding the murder case, MW was supposed to serve a sentence of 15 years in prison and the end of his detention on December 20, 2031.

"MW has a background of cases 356, 170, and 351 of the Criminal Code in the murder of a Cendrawasih University lecturer in Buper Waena, Jayapura City", he said.

Earlier on Tuesday, April 20, the police also arrested prisoner IW (21) who escaped together with MW from Wamena Prison. This young man was not shot because when he was arrested he did not give any resistance.

The police asked the families of 17 other prisoners who fled to help the police by handing over 17 people who are still hiding from the police.

"If these 17 prisoners are properly handed over, we will consider returning them to Wamena prison properly", he said.

The prisoner who is still roaming the community has caught the attention of the police because it is feared that he will threaten the safety of others.

"Indeed, there are several cases of violence here, such as the robbery of motorbikes, snatches who fled and did not rule out these prisoners to be the perpetrators", he said.
