Bobby Nasution Inaugurates Revitalization Of Merdeka Square

The Mayor of Medan, North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution inaugurated the revitalization of the 4.88 hectare Merdeka Square which spent a budget of IDR 497 billion.

"We know that Merdeka Square is a historic area. Not only for Medan and North Sumatra Provinces, but also Indonesia's independence," Bobby said when inaugurating Medan Merdeka Square, Wednesday, February 19.

Bobby emphasized that this revitalization reinforces the historical value of Merdeka Square, located in the zero point area of Medan City.

Therefore, Merdeka Square remains the Proclamation Monument as a marker of history which is a place for the text of the Proclamation, so that the news of Indonesia's independence spread widely in North Sumatra.

"Now that it has been revitalized, Merdeka Square has returned to its initial function as a green open space, and where people interact," he said.

The mayor said that in this area people can breathe fresh air, apart from revitalizing work, they do not dismantle a single tree in Merdeka Square.

"This revitalization of Merdeka Square takes quite a long time and costs from the Medan Regional Budget, including the assistance of North Sumatra Province. We thank all stakeholders who have helped smooth this revitalization," he said.

Bobby said the Medan City Government wants the Merdeka Square area to also help economic movement, especially in the core of Medan City.

This revitalization builds two floors of luxury that have facilities, such as art galleries, meeting buildings, tenants, and cinemas, which are homework for Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas who was sworn in in Jakarta, Thursday (20/2).

"We hope that the arrangement will provide opportunities for MSME actors. It must be divided for MSMEs and big entrepreneurs. Maybe with a comparison of 60:40, 70:30, or 50:50," Bobby's message who was inaugurated as Governor of North Sumatra in Jakarta, Thursday (20/2).

Head of the Cipta Karya Settlement Housing and Medan City Spatial Planning Agency Alexander Sinulingga said the revitalization of Merdeka Square was a multi-year project worth Rp. 497 billion and received supervision from the Prosecutor's Office.

In addition to two floors of fire, he said, the upper side of Merdeka Square remains a public space that can be used by the public for sports venues, and the addition of the people's stage.

"We hope that the community can use and care for Merdeka Square as a common property," he said.
