Coordinating Minister Yusril Admits He Is Not Little When Performance Is Bad

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections (Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra admitted that he would not be discouraged if his performance was considered poor.

Based on the results of a survey conducted by the Center of Economic and Law Studies (Celios), Yusril received an assessment of 1.6 percent and was included in the ministerial group with poor performance.

"I will not feel honored if my performance is considered good, on the other hand, it will not be discouraged if my performance is considered bad. I just work with my conscience, mind, knowledge, and experience," said Yusril when confirmed in Jakarta, Saturday.

He revealed that the task of being a leader is not easy because a leader is obliged to absorb the hopes of all the people.

Leaders, he continued, must also show the people the steps that must be taken to overcome the current situation to get to a better future.

For this reason, Yusril continued, there are times when the leader decides something that is not popular in the eyes of the people by making policies that are against opinions and can even be accused of against the will of the people.

Such a leader, according to him, is not always considered a madman, because the person is made a leader because he is considered different from the common people.

On the other hand, the Coordinating Minister assessed that the figure of a leader is a human being who is able to see problems that are not visible in the eyes of others, especially in the eyes of ordinary people, by deciding something that will only be felt in the future.

"Initially he might have been blamed, but far behind the day, it turned out that what he decided was true. Not everyone was able to understand whether the decision was right, right, or not," he said.

In fact, he continued, most humans just realized that the decision was right and right when the time had passed for so long.

Yusril gave an example, one of which was President Prabowo Subianto's decision to cut and save the current budget so that the Government could invest on a large scale through the Anagata Nusantara (Dantara) Power Investment Management Agency, which drew criticism from several parties.

The decision, he said, could be considered unpopular, but Prabowo had great courage to make that decision for the better future of the national economy, especially in order to pursue 8 percent economic growth.

He assessed that the impact of the President's decision would only be felt and enjoyed in the next few years.

"I think President Prabowo is really a leader who is able to see something that no one else can see," said Yusril.

As for the 100 days of the Red and White Cabinet in January 2025, a number of institutions released the results of their survey of the performance of Prabowo's ministers. Several ministers received the best title, some of which received the worst title so they were called eligible to be replaced.

Despite having received a bad assessment, the Indonesian Political Indicators Institute placed Yusril in the list of ministers who were considered good by the public. Meanwhile, the Kompas Research and Development survey noted that 72.1 percent of respondents were satisfied with the government's overall performance in the legal field.
