BOGOR - In the celebration of the 2025 National Press Day (HPN) and the 79th Anniversary of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) which falls on February 9, 2025, the Chairman of the Bogor City DPRD, Adityawarman Adil conveyed three important points about the role of members of the press in democracy in Indonesia.

Adit said that press personnel have an important role as government supervisors in implementing policies. Because, in a democratic country, the press acts as a "watchdog" that not only reports news, but also provides transparent information to the public.

In carrying out this task, the press protects the interests of the people and ensures that their aspirations are heard. Without critical and independent press, many important issues can be neglected, said Adit, Sunday, February 9.

Then, with the vision of Indonesia Gold 2045 in celebrating 100 years of independence, the Indonesian nation has extraordinary challenges. For this reason, he hopes that the press can spearhead as an information broadcaster educating the public.

"With accurate and reliable information, the press can inspire the younger generation to actively participate in the development of the country and contribute to joint progress," explained Adit.

Furthermore, he connected about the importance of the role of the press in the era of digitalization. With social media and other digital platforms, information can now be accessed easily.

However, behind this convenience there are also major challenges in the form of disinformation and fake news. The press is required to be more creative and responsive, and adapt to technological developments.

By improving content quality and looking for alternative ways to deliver news, the press can remain relevant and become a reliable source of information amid the swift flow of information.
