JAKARTA - Perumda PAM Jaya as a BUMD belonging to the DKI Provincial Government is building two water treatment plants (IPA), namely IPA Pesanggrahan and Ciliwung. If it operates, the piped water distributed from the two IPAs can be directly drunk from the taps in people's homes.

PAM Jaya Service Director Syahrul Hasan said, water from the Pesanggrahan and Ciliwung IPA can be drunk directly because the network installed to flow water to customers uses a new pipe.

"Especially the IPA Pesanggrahan and later the Ciliwung IPA, Jakarta residents can drink this directly. Why? Apart from the new IPA, the network is prepared new, food graded. This is staking, moving all processes in that direction," said Syahrul in a discussion at DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, February 12.

The plan is that the Pesanggrahan IPA will increase the supply of drinking water by 750 liters per second and can accommodate an increase in the number of new customers as many as 75 thousand connections.

"This pesanggrahan IPA will certainly be felt by many Jakarta residents, especially those adjacent to or those adjacent to Tangerang. For example, in the southern region of Jakarta and slightly to the west, towards Meruya, towards Kedoya," said Syahrul.

As of February 2025, the construction of the Pesanggrahan IPA reached 59.44 percent. The plan is that the IPA, which collects raw water from the Pesanggrahan River, will start operating in September 2025 with an initial stage of 250 liters per second and increase gradually.

Meanwhile, IPA Ciliwung is planned to produce 200 liters per second and be able to add 15 thousand new customers. The projection is that IPA Ciiwung will serve drinking water in several sub-districts in Pasar Minggu, Pancoran, and Jagakarsa sub-districts.

Syahrul said that the progress of the construction of the Ciliwung IPA as of February 2025 had only reached 2.25 percent. The target is that the IPA, which processes raw water from the Ciliwung River, will operate in May 2026.

On the one hand, Syahrul admitted that there were challenges for PAM Jaya in attracting people who would be served by water from IPA Ciliwung to switch from using groundwater to PAM water.

"The error is extraordinary, because with the condition of the Ciliwung river, which we know all the situation, maybe people see it a bit lazy, brown in color, can you drink it later? Even though this proposal can be drunk," explained Syahrul.

"The Ciliwung IPA area, as well as the pesangerah IPA area, is the South Jakarta area, where, the use of the ground water is still dominant. Why? Because residents are still confident in consuming groundwater," he added.
