HPN 2025: President Prabowo Asks Press To Beware Of Hoaxes

JAKARTA - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto asked journalists or media crews to be aware of the spread of untrue news and hoaxes that can break unity in the community so as not to interfere with the real meaning of press freedom.

"Although we uphold press freedom, we must be aware of the spread of untrue news, hoax news, spread of hatred, spread of distrust of fellow citizens, we must always be aware of these divisive efforts," Prabowo said as broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube to coincide with the 2025 National Press Day celebration, Sunday.

The President also asked journalists in Indonesia to continue to maintain their dynamic way of finding and disseminating correct information so that the public can obtain information in line with their right to get information.

In order for the information provided to the public to be appropriate, the President advised that journalists must uphold the responsibility of the press in line with the interests of the nation and state.

One of the things journalists can do to maintain the responsibility of the press is to uphold the basis of the Pancasila state in carrying out their duties.

"I believe that the Indonesian press in the end will always be loyal to the ideals of the founders of the Indonesian nation. The Indonesian press must become a Pancasila press, a press involved in the development of the nation, which is committed to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," the President closed his statement.

Previously, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto had also reminded press personnel in Indonesia to prioritize the interests of the nation and state in every work to voice the truth for the community to coincide with the momentum of the 2025 HPN.

In the official upload of the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, President Prabowo gave a message so that members of the press can continue to be vigilant in guarding the truth without being influenced by certain opinions.

"I need to remind you that the Indonesian Press must always prioritize the interests of the nation and the people of Indonesia. We must be aware of efforts to control our thoughts and influence the course of people's opinions by using large capital," said Prabowo.

According to him, it is common that in today's era there are figures who have large capital and control the media, they tend to influence the community with certain thoughts that are contrary to the truth.

Therefore, press personnel are asked to be able to maintain their integrity, so that they can also maintain their role as national assets in spreading the truth in the midst of complex world conditions.

The peak of the 2025 National Press Day (HPN) celebration was held at the South Kalimantan Governor's Office Complex, Banjarbaru on February 9.
