JAKARTA - The West Papua province COVID-19 task force will immediately plan to temporarily close sea, air, and land transportation access to the area ahead of Eid Al-Fitr 2021.

The head of the West Papua COVID-19 Task Force, Derek Ampnir, said the lockdown policy or temporarily closing access to and from the area would be drafted with the local Transportation Agency.

"The plan to close access follows the Minister of Transportation Regulation (Permenhub) Number 13 of 2021 concerning Transportation Control during the Idul Fitri Period 1442 H in the Context of Preventing the Spread of COVID-19," said Derek Ampnir, as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, April 20.

He said, in accordance with these provisions, the ban on homecoming will take effect from May 6 to 17, 2021.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has not ended, restrictions on access are immediately implemented to prevent a spike in cases during the religious holidays," said Ampnir.

Previously, the branch head of PT Pelni (Persero) Manokwari Djunaidi Idrus said that the state-owned company had implemented the scenario to prohibit the Eid Al-Fitr 2021 homecoming by temporarily closing sales of passenger tickets on the Pelni ship.

Idrus said the five Pelni ships that sailed to the East during that period (May 6-17, 2021) only carried logistics, without passengers.

"Five Pelni ships serve the Manokwari route, namely KM. Labobar, Sinabung, Ciremai, Tidar and KM. Mount Dempo only transports logistics," he said.

He said the Pelni ship passenger service from Manokwari to the West would resume operations on May 24, 2021.

"This is in accordance with the Minister of Transportation Regulation 13/2021 concerning Control of Transportation during the Eid Al-Fitr 1442 Hijriah in the Context of Preventing the Spread of COVID-19," said Idrus.
