JAKARTA - President Mahmoud Abbas has expressed his appreciation for the firmness of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in rejecting the forced transfer of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

"We really appreciate Egypt's steadfast position, which you reiterated today, rejecting the transfer of our citizens from Gaza, opposing injustice to Palestinians, and upholding historic and immovable Egyptian support for the Palestinian cause," President Abbas wrote in his message to President Sisi. January 30.

He stressed that these words have a very important meaning to Palestinians and are in line with international law, which reinforces their determination to stay on their land and reject any attempt to expel them.

On the occasion President Abbas also praised Egypt's continued support for Palestinian rights as well as the aspiration for freedom and independence, highlighting the importance of ending Israel's occupation and achieving fair peace based on international legitimacy.

He stressed that stability in the region relies on securing Palestinian rights and ensuring an immediate ceasefire, sending humanitarian aid, and taking control by the Palestinian Authority over the Rafah border crossing as a step towards full Gaza's government as part of the Palestinian state.

Earlier, Sisi's President said Egypt would not participate in the eviction of Palestinians, an "inequality" that would threaten Egypt's security.

Speaking at a news conference with Kenyan President William Ruto who was visiting, President Sisi said Egypt would work closely with Trump to achieve peace between Israel and Palestine based on a two-state solution.

"Regarding what is said about the transfer of Palestinians, it cannot be tolerated or permitted because of its impact on Egypt's national security," President Sisi said.

President Sisi's comments came after President Trump on Saturday said Egypt and Jordan should accept Palestinians from Gaza, whom he called a "dismantling location" after 15 months of Israeli bombings that left most of its 2.3 million residents homeless.

"The two-state solution is a historic right that cannot be ignored," said President Sisi, adding President Trump was "able to achieve that goal for a just and permanent peace in the Middle East".
