Meeting Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Iranian Foreign Minister Praised Indonesia's Consistency On The Nuclear Agreement

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi welcomed the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif at the Pancasila Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta, Monday 19 April.

In his statement, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the two foreign ministers discussed cooperation in the health and economic sectors. Especially in joint efforts to overcome the pandemic and accelerate economic recovery.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry, in a statement on its website, explained that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif appreciated Indonesia's friendly relations with Iran, which have reached the age of 70.

"Foreign Minister Zarif praised Indonesia's principled stance in the UN Security Council in maintaining The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or the Iran Nuclear Agreement, as well as implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2231," wrote the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

For your information, Resolution 2231 is a resolution on the Iranian nuclear issue and the UN's commitment to support research, production and development of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Regarding the trade relations between the two countries, Foreign Minister Zarif welcomed the improvement in existing trade relations. However, he also highlighted the need for the settlement of preferential trade agreements between the two countries.

"Foreign Minister Zarif expressed the Iranian side's readiness to continue negotiations in this matter," the statement continued.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi praised the growing trend of friendship between the two countries, especially in the economic sector. Foreign Minister Retno hopes that the two countries can facilitate Iran-Indonesia business relations through the Joint Business Commission.

Also discussed in this meeting were issues of international law, and exchanged views on the latest developments in the Afghan peace process.
