The Indramayu Regency Government on the recommendation of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Indramayu Regency has declared a disaster emergency response status following the tidal flood that hit Eretan Kulon Village, Kandanghaur District, Indramayu Regency, West Java, on Wednesday 29 January. The status determination was conveyed by the Acting Chief Executive (Kalak) of BPBD Indramayu Sutrisno.
"There were 123 houses that were affected, seven of them were damaged. Seeing this condition, I think this is no longer an emergency alert, but an emergency response," said Sutrisno.
After the emergency response status is established, Sutrisno revealed that his party will immediately conduct a rapid assessment with regional work units (SKPD) to determine the needs of residents affected by the tidal flood. BPBD will coordinate these needs.
Sutrisno added that the disaster emergency response status would be enforced for seven days, and could be extended to 14 days if needed.
On the other hand, some residents who are still reluctant to be evacuated to the main post at the Kertawinangun Village Hall are worried that their belongings will be lost. To overcome this concern, the Indramayu Police ensured security by conducting patrols in settlements affected by the tidal flood.
