Rahman And Arkam Reported Missing On Mount Karianga Still Wanted By Ternate Basarnas

TERNATE - The Search and Rescue Office of the Ternate Basarnas, North Maluku (Malut), deployed personnel to search for two residents of North Halmahera who were reported missing while climbing Mount Karianga since January 11, 2025.

The Coordinator of the Tobelo Basarnas Post, M. Rizal, confirmed the incident after receiving a report from the victim's family and is currently in the process of being searched.

It is known the identities of the two victims, namely Rahman (18) and Arkam (19). The elements involved in the SAR operation of the Tobelo SAR Post Rescue Team, Halut BPBD, Babinsa/Bhabinkamtibnas, the families of the victims and the surrounding community.

"We will conduct a search and hope that both of them are found soon," he said Thursday when contacted in Ternate, Antara, Monday, January 13.

He said the report was received by the Tobelo SAR Post through the victim's family and the team immediately responded to Time.

Chronology of the disappearance of the two victims began when four residents of Popilo Village, North Tobelo District climbed Mount Karianga Tobelo. When the night came, the four then made tents to camp to continue their journey the next day.

The next day, only two climbers continued their journey to the top of Mount Karianga, due to foggy weather conditions. Two of them waited in the tent of the camp.

However, because the two victims had not returned, two of his colleagues who were currently camping and waiting were forced to return to Popilo Village to notify their families and then report this incident to the Tobelo Basarnas.

"After the report was received, at 20.10 WIT, the team headed to the victim's residence in Popilo Village to coordinate, then the Joint SAR Team moved to the suspect point at the climbing location to conduct a search," he said.
