The Kremlin says Russia has a strategic national interest in the Arctic when asked to comment on US President-elect Donald Trump's remarks on Greenland's annexation, Canadian merger, and Panamanian Canal take control.
Trump, who took office on January 20, refused to rule out the use of military or economic action to pursue the Acquisition of the Panama and Greenland Canal.
Trump also made the idea of turning Canada into a US state and promised to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
When asked about Trump's comments about Greenland and Canada, the Kremlin said Russia, which has the largest coastline in the Arctic, was watching closely the Dramatic development' of the situation.

Peskov said the US efforts to seize Greenland, which began in the 19th century, were US and Danish affairs, but he noted Europe reacted very carefully to Trump's statement.
"Europe reacted very scaredly and of course scary to react to Trump's words, therefore Europe reacted very carefully, calmly, quietly, almost as whispering," Peskov said.
