JAYAPURA - Sentani Surya Eka Airport Public Relations Officer said the Sentani Airport aviation security officer (AVSEC) arrested IRN, a prospective passenger to Sorong, Southwest Papua, for carrying 35 packages containing marijuana in his trunk.

The case was revealed shortly after IRN reported to the check-in section, as well as included a suitcase that would be stored in the trunk.

"When officers conducted a hold baggage security check point (HBSCP) inspection using an X-Ray trunk of Sentani Airport, they found suspicious images on the monitor screen," said Public Relations of Sentani Surya Eka Airport in Sentani as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, January 9.

Feeling suspicious, the officers then coordinated with members of the TNI who served at the airport and the Airport Area Police to find the owner of the goods.

After the owner was found, the suitcase was opened and 35 packages of marijuana were found to be smuggled into Sorong.

"IRAN and the evidence were then handed over to the Sentani Airport KP3 Police for further processing and this is the first smuggling case that occurred at Sentani Airport," said Surya Eka.

Sentani Airport in addition to serving flights out of Papua also serves various cities, including Sorong.
