JAKARTA - A total of 37 people were killed in armed clashes between the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) led by Kurdish in the Manbij region, North Syria, Thursday, January 9.
This fighting comes amid concerns by the United States (US) against Turkey in Syria to increase its attacks on Kurdish. The US is a supporter of Kurdish.
"Strict fighting has occurred in rural Manbij ... in recent hours between the Syrian Democratic Forces (led by Kurdish) and the Turkish-backed National Army faction ... with Turkish air protection," reads a war monitor report from the UK-based organization 'Syrian Observatory for Human Rights', quoted from AFP.
The report said that although SNA had been supported by airstrikes from Turkey, many of the victims were killed from Turkish-backed fighters.
While the other death toll was six members of the SDF and five civilians.
"The attack killed 37 people in the initial death toll," the report continued.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the number of deaths from the fighting in Manbij since last month has reached 322 people.
