DENPASAR - Minister of Environment (LH), Hanif Faisol Nurofiq revealed that the shipping waste that was stranded on several coastal coasts in Bali mostly came from the river flow on the island of Java which leads to the Java Sea.

"This garbage will follow the flow and continue to move to the east, then south and some are stranded on the coast of Bali," said Hanif Faisol Nurofiq on the sidelines of a clean action by marine debris on Kuta Beach, Badung Regency, Bali, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, January 4.

He explained that the marine waste occurs during the west wind that occurs in October-March every year.

The Minister of Environment estimates that the amount of shipment waste found on the coast of Bali in 2024-2025 is higher than in 2020-2021 which reached around 6,000 tons and in 2023 it was around 2,900 tons.

The garbage sent was stranded, one of which was on the coast of Kuta Beach, Kedonganan Beach and other beaches which had been a tourist attraction.

The increase in waste accumulation, he continued, was triggered by an increase in the number of people and activities that were not environmentally friendly.

Not only from the river flow on the island of Java, he continued, the sea debris sent on Kuta Beach also came from other countries, although he did not mention the details of the country's origin.

"In fact, based on data on piles of garbage carried on Kuta Beach, some of them are from other countries," he said when giving a speech.

In addition to landing on the coast of Bali, he continued, the sea debris carried by the current also reached the African coast, precisely in Madagascar.

"So this is a waste journey from downstream Java to Madagascar," he said.

Responding to this condition, Hanif said that his party would build a river program (river) free from garbage by targeting the main rivers.

The first target is targeting three to four rivers in the leading tourist destination of the Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar).

"Of the 17 leading tourist destinations from the Ministry of Tourism, I ask that the three of us finish the waste first this year," he added.
