The BMKG through Haji Asan Sampit Meteorological Station predicts the potential for high waves in the coastal areas of East Kotawaringin Regency (Kotim), Central Kalimantan (Kalteng).
"We urge the public to be careful, because there is still the potential for rain accompanied by strong winds, as well as wave heights that must be considered," said BMKG Kotim forecaster Rizaldo Raditya in Sampit, Tuesday, December 31, as reported by Antara.
Ujung Pandaran Beach in Teluk Sampit District is one of the most popular tourist destinations for the people of Kotim to vacation while celebrating the turn of the year. So, it's no wonder that every time before the new year the area will be crowded with visitors.
However, before deciding to vacation to the coast or coastal areas, it is hoped that the public will pay more attention to weather developments for the sake of security and mutual comfort.
BMKG Kotim has released a maritime weather forecast in the waters of Teluk Sampit, which is December 30, 2024 - January 1, 2025.
This time range is predicted to have the potential for light to moderate rain accompanied by strong winds, as well as waves with a height of 1.25 meters to 2.5 meters that must be considered when on vacation on the beach.
Previously, the Head of BMKG Kotim Mulyono Leo Nardo warned of the impact of waves with these heights that need to be watched out for by the ferry carrying basic necessities and not recommended for fishing boats to sail under these conditions.
"We hope that this will also become a public alert who vacations to the beach in order to avoid unwanted things," he said.

"We have anticipated like in previous years, we sent a team to guard and receive tourist visits to Ujung Pandaran Beach," he said.
He added that the East Kotim Disbudpar also coordinated with the police and the local sub-district government in order to increase the security of the Ujung Pandaran Beach tourist area, especially with the high wave forecast from the BMKG.
