Densus 88 Shoot Dead A Terrorist Suspected With Machete In Makassar

MAKASSAR - The Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror Police Team shot dead one of the terrorist suspects with the initials MT, on Jalan Mannuruki, Tamalate District, Makassar, South Sulawesi. The suspected terrorist was shot dead because he wanted to attack the police with a machete.

"Members are in a state of urgency because MT is holding machetes in both hands and will attack the members until they are finally given firm action", said the Head of Public Relations of the South Sulawesi Regional Police, Commissioner E Zulpan, quoted by Antara, Thursday, April 15.

During the MT raid at his house on Jalan Mannuruki, Makassar, members of the Indonesian Police Anti-terror Special Detachment 88 were assisted by members of the Mobile Brigade of the South Sulawesi Regional Police, attempted to secure suspected terrorists.

However, when MT was about to be taken away, MT with both sharp machetes in both hands, tried to attack the police, which the members responded with warning shots.

"We have been given warning shots, but he (MT) tried to attack and was finally given firm action", he said again.

Zulpan said MT's arrest was based on the results of developments by members related to the suicide bombing that took place at the Makassar Cathedral some time ago.

In addition, MT is also suspected of being part of the Jamaah Ansharud Daulah (JAD) network and part of the suspected terrorist network that was previously raided at Villa Mutiara Housing, Makassar in early 2021.

"This is all case development and the aim is for interrogation, but some of them immediately resisted", Zulpan continued.
