Iran Protests Arrest Of Citizens In The US For Alleged Export Drones For Attacks In Jordan

JAKARTA - Iran summoned a Swiss ambassador in Tehran representing US interests in the country over the arrest of two Iranian nationals in America. A senior Italian diplomat was also summoned.

US prosecutors charged the two Iranian men with illegally exporting sensitive technology into Iran. The US suspects the export of the technology was used in a drone strike in January in Jordan that killed three US military members.

Reported by Reuters on Sunday, December 22, federal prosecutors in Boston identified the two Iranians as Mohammad Abedini, co-founder of Iran-based company Mahdi Sadeghi, an employee of the Massachusetts-based producer of semiconductor Analog Devices.

Abedini, a Swiss and Iranian national, was arrested in Italy at the request of the US government.

Meanwhile, Sadeghi, a US citizen who was naturalized to be born in Iran, lives in Natick, Massachusetts.

"We consider this arrest to violate international law," Iranian media wrote, citing a statement by the foreign ministry.

Reportedly, the Swiss ambassador and Italian business attorney were asked to continue Iran's protests to the United States.
