JAKARTA The Prime Minister (PM) of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, gave full support to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for his firm speech at the 11th Development Eight (D-8) Summit which took place at the Presidential Palace of New Administrative Capital, Cairo, Egypt, last week.
"I express my full support for the words of my best friend, President Prabowo Subianto, during the recent D-8 Leadership Session in Kaherah, Egypt," said Anwar Ibrahim through his official Instagram account, @anwaribrahim_my, on Saturday, December 21.
In his speech, Prabowo raised the issue of the rights of Palestinian Gazans, which he called an undeniable fact and needed serious attention from the participants of the summit.
"President Prabowo has conveyed a bitter but important truth to put forward well and wisely, especially with regard to the rights of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state," Anwar added.
Anwar also expressed his enthusiasm for Indonesia's role as Chair of D-8 starting January 1, 2026. D-8 is an economic cooperation organization between the eight developing countries formed in 1997. Its members include Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Turkey, and Pakistan.
"Malaysia firmly supports President Prabowo's leadership for D-8 in 2026. I look forward to close cooperation with Indonesia so that this organization becomes more dynamic and inclusive," said Anwar.
As a country, Anwar emphasized Malaysia's commitment to be with Indonesia in fighting for the voices of developing countries on the international stage.
The call for Muslim State Unity In his speech at the special session of the 11th D-8 Summit, Prabowo highlighted the weak solidarity between Muslim countries in dealing with the issue of peace and humanity. He emphasized the importance of concrete unity and cooperation among Muslim countries.
"We always express support for Palestine, Syria, but what kind of support? When our brothers are in trouble, we give statements of humanitarian support and assistance. Sorry, this is my opinion, but let's see the reality. We have to work together, equalize voice, and not be divided," said Prabowo, as quoted from the official website of the Cabinet Secretariat.
According to Prabowo, concrete steps are often not in line with statements of support. He also highlighted the lack of international respect for the voices of Muslim countries.

Human rights often do not apply to Muslims. This is in reality, very sad. Let's do what we can, but remain realistic and honest with ourselves," said the former Minister of Defense.
With his firm speech, Prabowo called for Muslim countries not only to unite in words but also in concrete actions to create global changes.
