JAKARTA - Indonesia does not want to be trapped in a hurry to recognize or not recognize the new government in Syria, more importantly to see the development of the situation in the country, after the collapse of President Bashar al-Assad's government.

A Syrian rebel group led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) managed to control the capital of Damascus and brought President Assad down on December 8.

Mohamed al-Bashir is appointed as interim prime minister of the Syrian transitional government which is planned until March 1, 2025.

Asked about the development of the situation in Syria, Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Roy Soemirat said, when a new country ends the conflict, everything doesn't just end.

"We still have to see how the acceptance from the entire community in the region is regarding current developments. Currently, there are many stakeholders in the region who have their own views," Roy explained in a press statement in Jakarta, Monday, December 16.

"Indonesia will actively assist this issue in various forums, including UN forums, not only to rush recognition or not to admit it," he explained.

"Because for the international community, that's not it, how can Syria return to normal life, all people can agree as a country, then we will see further international acceptance issues," explained Roy.

As previously reported, HTS leader Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, Al Bashir and ousted government PM Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali have met and agreed to coordinate the transfer of power by ensuring the provision of services for the Syrian people, as quoted by CNN.

"There are still many resolutions related to Syria issued by the UN DK that must be implemented by parties who have been directly involved in the conflict, both from the newly imposed government and the opposition side that takes over the government," concluded Roy.
