YOGYAKARTA - The name Sherly Tjoanda managed to excel in the quick count of the 2024 North Maluku Pilkada. The ex-wife of the late Benny Laos came forward with Sarbin Sehe as his deputy. So what is the profile of Sherly Tjoanda who will serve as the new Governor of North Maluku?

The Sherly-Sarbin pair won 50.37 percent of the votes based on the results of the quick count on Thursday (28/11). Meanwhile, other candidates who are competitors received 25.59 percent of the votes for the Husein-Asrul pair, 12.46 percent of the Kasuba-Basri pair, and 11.56 percent of Alion-Sahrul.

Sherly Tjoanda was born in Ambon, Maluku, August 8, 1984. This Protestant Christian woman is the ex-wife of the late Benny Laos who was the Regent of Morotai Island. Their marriage was blessed with three children.

Sherly Tjoanda had to part with her late husband because Benny Laos had a speedboat accident. Benny Laos died in a speedboat explosion on Saturday (12/10) ahead of the Pilkada contestation. Benny, who previously ran as Cagub Malut, was finally replaced by his wife.

This 40-year-old woman has studied at Petra University in Surabaya majoring in the International Business Management. After getting a Bachelor's degree, Sherly continued her master's degree at Inholland University, Netherlands.

Sherly is the Director of PT Bela Group, a company developed with her ex-husband. Apart from being active in the business world, Sherly also often contributes or is involved in organizational activities. Sherly was once trusted to be the Chair of the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association (HKTI) and the Chairperson of the Bela Peduli Foundation.

The couple Sherly Tjoanda and Sarbin Sehe carried a vision in equalizing infrastructure and developing the city of Sofifi into a metropolitan center. This promise was conveyed during the last Pilgub debate. Sherly and her deputy plan to connect Sofifi with other districts to boost economic growth.
