YOGYAKARTA Every December 9 is celebrated as World Corruption Day (Harkodia). The commemoration of World Corruption Day (Harkodia) 2024 is celebrated as a form of contribution from society and the state in fighting corruption behavior.

Please note, the emergence of Harkodia starts from the awareness of countries that are members of the United Nations (UN). They realize that corrupt behavior will have a negative impact on life.

Speech conducted by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, on October 30, 2003 also sparked awareness of the importance of fighting corrupt behavior. In his speech, Kofi Annan said that this behavior was a big trigger for the nation's economy to be destroyed. Corruption has also hampered poverty eradication and state development programs.

December 9 was then agreed as World Anti-Corruption Day. This date is based on the signing of the Anti-Corruption Agreement which was held in Merida, Mexico.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as the spearhead of Indonesia in fighting corruption behavior invites the public to participate in commemorating Harkodia in 2024. In Indonesia, the 2024 Harkodia raised the theme "Stature Commitment to Fight Corruption for Advanced Indonesia".

Quoted from the KPK's official website, Hakordia 2024 has the meaning of an invitation to all elements of the nation to strengthen their commitment and focus on eradicating corruption which is the pillar to lead to Indonesia Gold in 2045.

In the celebration of Hakordia 2024, there were various series of events held with the peak event being held on December 9, 2024. The activities held were educational and collaborative by involving various levels of society.

The hope is that the commemoration will be able to strengthen anti-corruption culture and build awareness in Indonesia that corruption is a common enemy.

Quoted from Antara, the Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nawawi Pomolango explained that the 2024 Harkodia was a reflection of the nation's contribution in fighting corrupt behavior.

"This World Anti-Corruption Day is an opportunity for all of us to reflect: to what extent have we contributed to fighting corruption," explained Nawawi.

He also reminded that in order for Indonesia to be free of corruption, courage and firmness are needed from all parties.

"Currently, we are required to be more courageous in upholding integrity, being firmer in taking action against corruption, and being more committed to maintaining the mandate that has been given to us," he explained.
