Sumenep DPRD Member Arrested By Police For Ownership Of 15 Grams Of Shabu

SUMENEP member of the Sumenep Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) with the initials IDX was arrested by the Sumenep Police Narcotics Unit on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine.

During the raid on his home, the police found evidence in the form of more than 15 grams of crystal methamphetamine packaged in six plastic clips.

The Sumenep Police Chief, AKBP Henry Noveri Santoso, explained that the IDX's arrest was the result of the development of a previous case involving two other suspects.

"The IDX suspect is strongly suspected of acting as a dealer. The arrests were made after we developed information from two other suspects. During the raid on his home, we found evidence in the form of more than 15 grams of crystal methamphetamine," said AKBP Henry on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

According to AKBP Henry, IDX previously served as village head before being elected as a member of the DPRD. Currently, the police are still investigating how long the suspect has been involved in drug trafficking activities.

In a press conference held at the Sumenep Police Hall, the suspect IDX suddenly collapsed and fainted. The police immediately took him to the treatment room.

"Probably due to fatigue. His current condition has improved," said Head of Public Relations of the Sumenep Police, Kompol Widiarti.

For his actions, the IDX was charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. The threat of punishment for suspects includes the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a minimum prison sentence of 6 years.

This case is a public concern, considering the status of the IDX as a member of the DPRD which should be an example for the community. The Sumenep Police are committed to resolving this case and eradicating drug trafficking in their area.
