Bad Weather, UPAP Bans Fast Ships From Sailing To The Thousand Islands

JAKARTA - The Thousand Islands Water Transport Management Unit (UPAP) prohibits fast boat voyages to the Thousand Islands, Jakarta, because it is very dangerous for passenger safety due to bad weather.

"Until now, we have banned fast ship shipping because it is very dangerous for the safety of passengers and tourists visiting the Thousand Islands," said Head of the Thousand Islands UPAP Service Unit, Suparto Napitupulu, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, December 5.

The Tanjung Priok Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued information on bad weather conditions, so the fast boat service for today is abolished. "We prioritize safety," he said.

The DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) has also temporarily suspended crossing services from the North Jakarta Muara Angke Port to the Thousand Islands due to bad weather that occurred in the local area on Thursday.

"This decision was taken after the BMKG issued a statement of strong winds with speeds of 8-25 knots accompanied by light rain in the Muara Angke-Island Seribu crossing area on 4-5 December 2024," said Head of DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo.
