Thailand Flood Death Toll Increases To 25 People, 22,000 Residents Forced To Evacuate

JAKARTA - The Thai government announced that the death toll from floods hit its country increased to 25 people.

Thailand's Disaster Management Agency said floods since November 22 have submerged more than 660,000 houses in the southern region of Thailand as of Tuesday November 3.

Suwas Bin-Uma, a chicken farm owner in Songkhla province, told PBS journalists that the flood had swept away all his more than 10,000 chickens.

"I have lost at least three million baht (87,000 US dollars)," he said, quoted from AFP, Tuesday, December 3.

The Thai Department of Public Relations said more than 22.000 people were forced to flee due to flooding in submerging their homes in the provinces of Pattani, Narathiwat, Songkhla, and Yala.

Footage on social media showed residents in Songkhla province piling up sandbags in front of their homes on Monday, December 2 in an effort to stem floodwaters.

The head of a village in Yala province, Abdullah Abu, told local media Channel 7 that flooding in his area had reached a height of seven meters.

He said the SAR Team provided assistance once a day of food.

In Malaysia, the Kelantan area was also flooded. The houses are surrounded by puddles and residents draw water out of their homes.

Malaysia's disaster management officials said this Tuesday that more than 94,000 people had not returned to their homes after being evacuated due to flooding, with five people reported dead.
