Indonesia's Global Terrorism Index Improves, Coordinating Minister For BG: Achievements Both Prevention And Law Enforcement

Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Polkam) Budi Gunawan assessed that improving Indonesia's ranking in the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) was a big achievement that should be appreciated together.

"This achievement is the result of extraordinary and very good collaborative work from all parties, both in terms of prevention and law enforcement," Budi said at the BNPT CT/VE Outlook I-KHUB Publication event 2024 and the Kostra PE Roadmap, in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 3, confiscated by Antara.

As for the index that shows the high impact of terrorism, Indonesia's ranking in 2023 will improve in 31st place from the previous 24th place in 2022.

Thus, he said, the rating has put Indonesia in the category of Low Impacted by Terrorism or being low-affected by terrorism.

On the other hand, he invites all parties to be grateful because Indonesia has succeeded in reaching the zero number of terrorist attacks, aka zero terrorist terrorists, throughout 2023.

Nevertheless, Budi reminded that these various achievements do not indicate that the threat of terrorism has ended, so the government's tough task in the future is how to maintain the current condition.

Moreover, he said, referring to various data, cyberspace can be misused to speed up the radicalization process and even become a space for mind washing (the wash brain).

"That way, the presence of the state can provide a guarantee of a sense of security for the entire community through protection, both in real spaces and in cyberspaces, which has the potential to be misused for the purpose of terrorism," he said.

He emphasized that the protection effort was also listed in the Astacita mission of President Prabowo Subianto's administration. Currently, what has been included in the mission, namely the narrative to strengthen the ideology of Pancasila, democracy, and human rights.

For this reason, the former Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) asked all heads of ministries/agencies and communities to strengthen synergies and collaborations to prevent misuse of cyberspace and threats of terrorism.
