JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) stipulates that fasting or the beginning of Ramadan falls on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Coumas said the decision was taken after reports in 13 areas that witnessed the hilal.

The Minister informed the determination of 1 Ramadan, after holding a session of Isbat attended by representatives of islamic organizations and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), and several representatives from friendly countries.

"At the trial we have received reports that there have been 13 people who took the oath to witness that the hilal has been seen. So the decision of the isbat council without any difference, agreed we stipulate that 1 Ramadan 1442 H falls on April 13, 2021, Tuesday morning" said Minister Yaqut in a virtual press conference, Monday 12 April.

Menag Yaqut also announced that tonight indonesian Muslims can already perform tarawih prayers.

"So tonight we can pray tarawih and later in the night we eat sahur, after dawn we start to perform fasting," he explained.
