Floods Soak Dozens Of Houses In Kraton Jember Hamlet, 100 Families Affected

JEMBER Heavy rains that flushed a mountainous area in Curahnongko Village caused flooding that submerged dozens of houses in Kraton Hamlet, Wonoasri Village, Tempurejo District, Jember Regency, on Friday morning, November 29, 2024.

The flood inundated houses, rice fields, and a number of roads, so that residents' activities were stopped.

According to temporary data from the Jember Regency BPBD, around 100 families (KK) were affected by the flood. However, officers are still collecting data in the field to ensure the exact number of victims affected by the disaster.

"We continue to carry out assessments and monitoring at the location. We will also immediately evacuate, and some residents have been evacuated to the Wonoasri village hall," said Head of BPBD Jember Regency, Widodo Julianto.

Widodo also appealed to people living in disaster-prone areas to remain vigilant because the rain is still pouring down the Jember Regency area to date.

Based on a provisional analysis, the flood was caused by heavy rains that flushed the mountainous area in Curahnongko Village, which caused the water to overflow and inundate the low area in Kraton Hamlet.

One of the local residents, Jumari, said that the water began to enter residential areas at around 04.00 WIB. Heavy rain that occurred from Thursday night to Friday morning has indeed become an annual subscription in the area, although in recent years it has not been as bad as this time.

"Actually, this is an annual subscription, but the last 2-3 years has not been this bad. This time the water rose up to 50 centimeters in it," said Jumari.
