West Java KPU Directly Substitutional Process For Candidates For Deputy Regent Of Ciamis Who Died

The West Java General Election Commission (KPU) will immediately begin the process of changing the candidate for deputy regent (cawabup) of Ciamis, Yana D Putra, who died of a heart attack on Monday, November 25.

The head of the West Java KPU, Ummi Wahyuni, said that his party had instructed the Ciamis Regency KPU to speed up the replacement process according to the rules.

"The replacement process is carried out today based on Article 16 of PKPU Number 17," explained Ummi.

He also ensured that this incident would not interfere with the schedule for regional head elections which are scheduled to take place in two days, on November 27, 2024.

"God willing, the death of this cawabup will not interfere with the election stages," he said.

The Ciamis Regency KPU will soon announce official information to the public regarding the next steps.

Meanwhile, the Head of the West Java KPU Socialization, Voter Education and Community Participation Division, Hedi Ardia, explained that the vote would still take place even though one of the candidates died.

"As long as the candidate pair has been determined, the voting process will continue. If the pair wins the election, only the regent candidate will be appointed as regional head," said Hedi.

To fill the vacancy for the position of deputy regent, political parties or coalitions of political parties that carry candidate pairs will propose a replacement name according to the mechanism regulated in the legislation.

"The process of filling the position of deputy regent will be carried out according to the applicable mechanism through proposals from the supporting party," he concluded.

Yana D Putra's departure is a deep sorrow for the people of Ciamis, but the stages of democracy continue as regulated in election regulations.

Previously, the Candidate for Deputy Regent of Ciamis, Yana D Putra, died of a heart attack on Monday morning, November 25. The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Ciamis, Andang Firman, revealed that the deceased had previously experienced shortness of breath and was immediately taken to the hospital by the driver.

"He was treated at the hospital, but was not helped," said Andang in Bandung.

On Saturday, Yana was also known to have participated in a number of activities, including a grand campaign with the candidate for regent of Ciamis, Herdiat Sunarya, at Taman Lokasana Field.

"He had a heart attack at around 07.00 WIB this morning. At first he felt shortness of breath," added Andang.
