Ahead Of Christmas-New Year, Commission V Of The DPR Asks The Ministry Of Transportation To Anticipate The Density Of 110 Million People On Vacation

Commission V DPR RI asked the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) to anticipate the density of 110 million people who are predicted to travel during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays.

The chairman of Commission V of the DPR, Syaiful Huda, assessed that this anticipation needed to be done to minimize accidents that could cause casualties of property and life.

"We ask that congestion on tourist routes must receive special attention, both at access to tourist sites and in their own destinations. Do not let the extraordinary congestion towards the peak of Bogor or access to Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport in the Nataru 2023 period repeat itself," Huda told reporters, Monday, November 25.

Huda said, congestion on tourist routes during the Nataru holiday continues to increase from year to year. Even though they know there will be congestion, residents still don't want to miss the holiday momentum during Nataru.

In the anglomerasi area, residents of Jakarta and its surroundings usually flock to fill their vacations to West Java. Congestion usually occurs on the peak route and the route to Bandung and its surroundings. Congestion in these routes must be anticipated early," he said.

According to Huda, the density of access to tourism is because the majority of road users use private vehicles during the Nataru holiday. In addition, he said, the unpreparedness of the authorities in anticipating various traffic engineering is a factor that continues to repeat congestion on tourist routes.

"This trigger factor must be anticipated from an early age starting from preparing various traffic engineering options such as one way, odd-even strategies, contra flow, car free night, as well as providing free transportation to tourist access to suppress the use of private vehicles," said the West Java legislator.

Huda also asked the Ministry of Transportation to anticipate the peak of the Nataru homecoming from Jakarta to various regions in Indonesia. According to him, the government must anticipate the potential for congestion at points along trans Java toll roads and road congestion towards ports and airports.

"The strategy of managing road, sea and air transportation during the homecoming flow of Eid al-Fitr, which has been relatively successful in becoming a strong baseline for the Ministry of Transportation to better prepare the management of community movements for the 2024 Nataru period," he said.

Huda also reminded the importance of the feasibility of transportation modes during the Nataru flow. The principle is to rampcheck to ensure the physical condition of the vehicle and administrative completeness.

"In addition, the physical and mental feasibility of the vehicle crew is also important so that the Ministry of Transportation can cooperate with related parties to carry out drug tests and other health tests for them," he concluded.

For information, based on a survey from the Ministry of Transportation, it is predicted that there will be 110.60 million people traveling during the 2024 Nataru holiday. Most of the movement of people will occur on the island of Java.

Survey data also stated that the peak of the flow occurred on December 24, 2024 and December 31, 2024, while the backflow occurred on January 1 and 2, 2025.
