Network Still Slow, Commission I Of The House Of Representatives Asks Komdigi To Accelerate Internet Access Equity Throughout Indonesia

JAKARTA - Member of Commission I DPR RI, By Soleh asked the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) to accelerate the distribution of internet access throughout Indonesia. This is because many people still complain that the Internet network in their homes is slow or slow.

This was conveyed by Soleh in response to the results of research by the World Digital Competitiveness Ranking (WDCR 2023) by the International International Institute for Management Development (IMD) from Switzerland, which stated that Indonesia's digital competitiveness rose to 45th in the world. This position is up from the position of 51 in the world in 2022.

The research mentions that in Asia, Indonesia's digital competitiveness is superior to a number of other Asian countries such as India (ranked 49), the Philippines (59) and Mongolia (63). However, in the Southeast Asia region, Indonesia still lost to Singapore (in 3rd place), Malaysia (ranked 33), and Thailand (ranked 35).

Even so, OpenSignal places Indonesia in a lower position in the list of countries with fixed broadband speeds in Southeast Asia. Fixed broadband is a type of high-speed internet service that uses fixed connections, through a cable network or fiber optics installed in certain locations.

Meanwhile, based on data from the Speed Test Global Index in 2020, Indonesia is in the 120th place, the average access speed is 14.16 Mbps for downloads and 9.5 Mbps uploads. This is still far below the world average of 31.95 Mbps (downloading) and 11.32 Mbps (upload).

In overcoming this problem, Soleh assessed that Indonesia must make equal access to the internet efficiently. In addition to Efficiency, according to him, Komdigi must also use appropriate and relevant technology according to the needs of the times.

"The speed also really needs to be improved, unlike what is presented on the Satria1 Satellite. People complain that the internet is slow," said Sholeh, Saturday, December 28.

The West Java electoral district legislator assessed that the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite could be the right solution in equitable telecommunication access to internet service providers (ISP).

The PKB politician reminded that President Prabowo Subianto strongly encourages the distribution of the population in each region. "This must also be accompanied by equal distribution of internet access in various corners of Indonesia," concluded Soleh.
