Minister of Religion (Menag) Nasaruddin Umar assessed that the concept of sharia is not only a religious phenomenon but has become an economic phenomenon such as the emergence of halal food and halal lifestyles in various countries in the last 10 years.

This was conveyed by Minister of Religion Nasaruddin at the Sharia International Forum (SHARIF) 2024 organized by the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) at the Mercure Ancol Hotel, North Jakarta (Jakut) from 20-22 November 2024.

"This is a sign that sharia is no longer a religious phenomenon but appears as an economic phenomenon as well," said the Minister of Religion in a written statement, Thursday, November 21.

The Minister of Religion then quoted Pope Benedict as saying, "The only way we can use to save the world economy right now is that we must adopt the concept of the sharia economy."

This for the Minister of Religion is one of the reasons the sharia economy is believed to be able to provide solutions to the crisis experienced by the world because of the implementation of the concept in it which is fair.

In his speech, the Minister of Religion also encouraged the need for new literature in Islamic law to remain relevant for participation in the development of today's modern economy.

"Let's make contemporary muamalah fiqh, which can be compatible with the development of our times," he appealed.

According to the current Minister of Religion, there is an authority that also intervenes in what is meant by truth. Therefore, the Minister of Religion revealed that there is a need for authority to strengthen sharia knowledge that is accommodative to the times.

With the holding of SHARIF 2024, the Minister of Religion hopes that this international-scale academic forum will be an effort to articulate the sharia concept which is compatible with the current market, it does not mean that sharia is in favor of the market.

This forum will also be an annual agenda that is attended by scholars, fatwa institutions, and delegates from 14 countries namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, United Arab Emirates (PEA), Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Qatar, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Turkey, and Australia.

The Minister of Religion also emphasized that this conference could immediately encourage the creation of the concept of sharia economy and muama which answers contemporary problems. He hopes that this forum can be an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with friendly countries to realize global innovation for mutual progress.

Carrying the theme "Sharia Services by Government Toward Mashaha Ammah" (Sharia Services by the Government on Joint Benefits), the forum, which was held at the beginning, seeks to emphasize the importance of state involvement in the provision of Islamic religious services.

Services in this case are not only designed to meet the needs of Muslims but also to promote the life of the harmonious citizens of the world.

This forum is an event for participants representing their country to exchange ideas, contribute and evaluate current practices in terms of sharia themes that have an impact on the lives of Muslims and other citizens in the world.
