Police Investigates Attack By Fighting Group In Padang

JAKARTA - The police investigated the attack on residents at a stall in Kampung Kalawi, Lubuk Lintah Village, Kuranji District, Padang, West Sumatra, on Sunday, April 11, at around 3 a.m.

The gang of unidentified men are thought to be a "group" fighting in the local area.

"After getting information from residents around 03.00 western Indonesia time, we went directly to the scene," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Kuranji Police, Inspector Sianturi, in Padang, as reported by Antara.

From the examination at the scene, it is known that the mob came suddenly and approached the residents who were in the stall.

Then those estimated to be about 20 people immediately pelted the residents with stones and brandished a katana.

"By the time we got to the location they were gone because the mob was throwing just passing by," he said.

Police suspect the gang was a group of brawlers who had previously been disbanded by officers in the Simpang Haru area.

"After escaping from the scene of the brawl then they passed this location," he said.

Sianturi said it had examined the scene and no residents had reported any injuries or damage.

Nevertheless, the incident will be the attention of the police in the future.

"This is of course a concern because it has been troubling the community," he said.
