Amelia Ahmad Yani: Bung Karno Used To Love My Father

JAKARTA - The daughter of Revolutionary Hero General of the TNI (posthumous) Ahmad Yani, Amelia Ahmad Yani, has re-opened her late father's daily record when she was accused of forming a Board of Generals to overthrow President Sukarno in 1965. In this note, the general experienced inner turmoil because he was accused of being an American spy.

"Bung Karno began to believe that we were rumored to be American spies. And strangely, when we discussed this collegially, the issue was reversed as if we were pro-American. This note, Amelia continued, is a strong clue to General Ahmad Yani's anxiety over his efforts to divide himself with President Sukarno. Amelia said the daily record is part of Indonesia's dark history, which is often called the September 30th Movement (G30S). This incident marked the killing of six generals, one of whom was General Ahmad Yani, by the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI). Their bodies were found in wells 1215 meters deep in the Lubang Buaya area, East Jakarta on October 3, 1965. "My father's record is very valuable," Amelia said.

Amelia is the third of 8 children to witness the life of the G30S incident in 1965. In fact, Amelia witnessed firsthand her father, General Ahmad Yani, executed by Cakrabirawa troops at his residence, Lembang Street, Number D-58, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on October 1, 1965, at 04.00 in the morning. Amelia also admitted that she witnessed the precarious situation ahead of her father's execution. He saw a number of high-ranking officials continue to visit his house to report the latest conditions regarding the PKI movement. One of those who came was Colonel Soegandhi Kartosoebroto, Bung Karno's senior aide. Unfortunately, Soegandhi did not meet Ahmad Yani in person because at the same time the general met the Commander of the Brawijaya Military Command, Major General of the TNI Basuki Rachmat. To Eddy Wijaya, Amelia Ahmad Yani expressed her disappointment over the issuance of three rules in the era of President Joko Widodo related to gross human rights violations including the PKI family. The three regulations are Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 2 of 2023 concerning the Implementation of Non-Judicial Rekomendation for Violations of Serious Human Rights, Presidential Decree Number 17 of 2022 concerning the Establishment of a Team for the Non-judicial Settlement of Past Serious Human Rights Violations, as well as Presidential Decree Number 4 of 2023 concerning the Monitoring Team for the Implementation of Recommendation for Non-Judicial Resolution of Serious Human Rights Violations.

According to Amelia, the Presidential Instruction and Presidential Decree made the state seem to admit mistakes in punishing members and PKI sympathizers so that their families had to get various facilities from the government. "From the Presidential Instruction, the children of Revolutionary Heroes are certainly angry, yes. For about 57 years there have been a lot of confusion about events (G30S). As if it's not the work of the PKI, but the army," said Amelia.

The former Indonesian Ambassador to Bosnia had submitted a judicial review to the Supreme Court regarding the three rules on July 14, 2023. Unfortunately, the Court rejected the lawsuit with the consideration that the Presidential Instruction was not a rule that had sanctions if it was not implemented.
