KPK: Ministry Of Religion Can Take Advantage Of The Pandemic In Mosques To Strengthen Anti-Corruption Values

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) plays an important role in supporting efforts to eradicate corruption, especially through a moral and educational approach.

This was conveyed by KPK Chairman Nawawi Pomolango when receiving an audience with the Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar and Deputy Minister Romo Muhammad Syafi'i with his staff on Tuesday, November 19. The Ministry of Religion is expected to be able to educate morale so that all parties do not hesitate to reject the practice of racism.

"The role of the Ministry of Religion is very much in line with the concept of eradicating corruption, namely educating the public morally to reject corruption starting from oneself," Nawawi said in an official written statement quoted on Wednesday, November 20.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairperson of the KPK Alexander Marwata said there are a number of ways that the Ministry of Religion can do to make people realize the dangers of corruption. For example, by campaigning through various approaches.

"The Ministry of Religion can encourage the issuance of books that integrate anti-corruption values to strengthen legitimacy. The Ministry of Religion can also use sermons in mosques as a means of conveying anti-corruption messages," said Alexander.

"We believe this step will be effective in echoing anti-corruption values in society," he continued.

The KPK calls the Ministry of Religion a strategic partner because it has regional offices in various regions. So, in addition to maintaining integrity internally, this agency is expected to be able to set a moral example for various groups.

"As a strategic partner of the KPK, the Ministry of Religion, including its regional offices in all regions, can be a moral example for various groups. Including by instilling anti-corruption values," he concluded.
